DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s President, Ebrahim Raisi, condemned on Saturday the Israeli airstrike in the Syrian capital Damascus that killed several members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), vowing the attack will not go unanswered.
President Raisi said in a message on condolence to the families of the killed IRGC members that Israel has violated Syrian airspace and carried out a “terrorist aggression,” adding that Iran will respond to Israel’s attacks.
On Saturday, an Israeli airstrike on a building in the Mezzeh neighborhood in Damascus killed five IRGC members.
Israel and Iran have been engaged in a series of ongoing retaliatory strikes, with the frequency intensifying since the outbreak of the war in Gaza.
On Dec. 25, 2023, Razi Mousavi, a prominent leader in IRGC was killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted the town of Sayyida Zainab, south of Damascus.
