Syriac politician says Turkish attacks on NE Syria serve ISIS’ agenda
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A Syriac politician said on Tuesday that the consistent Turkish attacks on north and northeast Syria serve the agenda of the Islamic State (ISIS).
Sanharib Barsoum, Co-chair of the Syriac Union Party, affiliated with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), told North Press that distracting the AANES and the military forces with another conflict revives ISIS which means that targeting al-Sinaa prison is part of the plan to revive ISIS.
Turkey continues its bombardment along the border strip from Derik in the northeast to Manbij in the west, destroying infrastructure facilities and properties of civilians, and causing civilian and military casualties.
Al-Sinaa prison, which holds ISIS detainees, in the city of Hasakah in northeastern Syria was hit by a missile on Tuesday morning.
Barsoum’s statement came on the sideline of a statement released by 33 political parties that condemned the Turkish attacks on north and northeast Syria. The statement took place ahead of the United Nations’ headquarters in the city of Qamishli, northeast Syria.
The statement of the political parties read, “Turkey escalates aggression on the region, capitalizing on the world’s attention on the Hamas-Israel conflict.
The parties called on the UN to take a serious and effective political solution that ends the Syrian war.
The politician told North Press that Turkey targets civilian properties and services, aiming to achieve a democratic change and seeking to occupy new areas.
