Turkish border guards kill Syrian asylum seeker in Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – A Syrian young man drowned on Monday in the Orontes River, northwest of Idlib Governorate, northwest Syria, after being thrown by the Turkish border guards in the river. The young man was arrested while attempting to cross towards Turkey from the town of Darkush, northwest of Idlib along the Syrian–Turkish borders.
An administrator in the Darkush Police Department, affiliated with the Syrian opposition, told North Press that “the Turkish border guards threw the young man Ahmad al-Ghadban, 17, into the river during his attempt to cross towards Turkey, and his body was found handcuffed by residents.”
He added that these practices have been increasing recently by the Turkish border guards. “They do not just arrest or open fire at asylum seekers, but they throw people into the river while their hands are bound,” the source added.
The administrator said that the border guards also targeted on the same day four people, including a woman, with live ammunition, in the village of Azmarin, northwest of Idlib.
On Dec. 17, a young man drowned in the Orontes River, after being thrown by the Turkish border guards during an attempt to cross the Turkish-Syrian border.
