Turkish aircraft destroy power-generating gas plant in NE Syria – AANES
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The Energy Office of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced late on Monday that Turkish warplanes destroyed the Sweidiya gas plant in the countryside of Derik (al-Malikiyah), far northeastern Syria, and put it completely out of service.
The Energy Office said in a statement on its official account that Turkish aircraft targeted the power-generating turbines at the gas plant with nine strikes. The attacks caused 100 percent destruction and put the only gas plant in northeast Syria out of service.
The statement condemned the “barbaric” act, describing it as “brutal” and a war crime against the people who fought the Islamic State (ISIS) and gave many sacrifices in doing so.
The Office also condemned the international silence and inaction towards the Turkish airstrikes that affected the sources of livelihood of five million Syrians living in Northeast Syria.
The statement added that they hold Russia and the U.S.-led Global Coalition responsible for the destruction caused by the Turkish attacks on infrastructure and service facilities.
