Turkish forces arrest 15 individuals in Syria’s Afrin
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – A military faction affiliated with the Turkish forces arrested on Monday 15 individuals from Afrin region in northwestern Syria on charges of dealing with external parties.
The Military Police, a faction affiliated with the Turkish intelligence, arrested 15 individuals including nine in the city of Afrin, four in the town of Rajo, and two in the town of Jindires, a source of the Military Police told North Press.
The source said the reason for the arrest is suspicion of dealing with external parties, without naming them. However, similar arrests occurred in the past, accusing the detainees of dealing with the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) before the Turkish occupation of Afrin in 2018.
Turkey has occupied Afrin region since 2018 following a military operation called “Olive Branch” in which it forced about 300,000 of the original people of the Kurds to flee and seized their houses and properties.
