Gunmen kill, injure 4 government-backed militants in Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – One militant of a militia affiliated with the Syrian government forces was killed on Sunday and three others were wounded in an attack in Deir ez-Zor Governorate in eastern Syria.

A military source from the government forces in the area said unknown gunmen attacked a patrol and checking points of al-Qaterji Battalions, a militia affiliated with the government forces, near al-Kharata oil field in the southern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, using machine guns.

The source added that the attack led to the killing of Hisham Rifa’i, 36, and the injury of three others. The attackers, however, fled to the desert.

He indicated that the al-Qaterji Battalions and the National Defense Forces (NDF) mobilized their forces following the attack.
