AANES delegation visits Russian base in Syria’s Qamishli
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A delegation of intellectual and religious figures visited on Saturday a Russian base in the countryside of Qamishli, northeastern Syria, to condemn the recent Turkish airstrikes that targeted Northeast Syria.
The delegation, which consisted of members of the Intellectuals Union in Hasakah Governorate and religious figures in the town of Amuda in the west of Qamishli, visited the Russian base to inquire about Russia’s inaction regarding Turkish attacks on Northeast Syria.
Kurdyar Dre’i, a member of the Intellectuals Union in Hasakah, said that they headed to the Russian base near Amuda, where they met with the command of the Russian base.
Dre’i told North Press that they urged the Russian side to fulfill its duties as a guarantor state and assume their responsibilities regarding the Turkish drone strikes against civilians in Northeast Syria.
The Russian officers expressed their distress regarding Turkish attacks and promised to deliver the delegation’s letter to their command, according to Dre’i.
On Dec. 23, Turkey launched airstrikes on several areas in northeastern Syria. The attacks lasted for four consecutive days, resulting in civilian casualties, destruction of dozens of service and health facilities, and significant damage to infrastructure.
