IRGC militant killed by government forces in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – A militant in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) was killed on Saturday in armed clashes with Syrian government forces in a town in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A local source in the IRGC told North Press that clashes erupted between an IRGC patrol and government forces in the town of Abu Kamal, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, near the Syrian-Iraqi border.
The government forces attempted to enter a house belonging to a relative of a militant in the patrol in the al-Jamaiyat neighborhood. This area is fully controlled by the IRGC within the town of Abu Kamal, which is predominantly under the IRGC’s control with a minimal presence of government forces, according to the source.
Three days ago, Iranian official Haj Sajad, who is in charge of al-Jamaiyat neighborhood, issued a decision to prohibit any government forces’ vehicles from entering the neighborhood due to previous disputes between them.
The source added that the fight, in which machine guns were used, resulted in the killing of IRGC militant Shadi al-Hussein, 37. Subsequently, the government forces fled the neighborhood.
