Turkish forces kill, injure 3 civilians on border with Syria
AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, Turkish border guards killed two Syrians and injured one while trying to cross the border from northwest Syria to Turkey.
The Turkish border guards opened fire on a group of Syrians in the border village of Hamam in the west of Afrin, northwestern Syria. The Syrians were trying to cross the border to Turkey, an eyewitness said.
He added that the firing led to the killing of two people and the injury of another. One of those killed is Muhammad al-Jassem, 28, who is from the town of Uqayribat in the east of Hama, central Syria.
The eyewitness pointed out that the border guards detained the bodies of those killed and extradited the injured to the Military Police, an armed faction affiliated with the Turkish intelligence, to hospitalize him in the city of Afrin.
Most of those who try to enter Turkish territory resort to dangerous smuggling routes to reunite their families or get a job opportunity to meet their needs, especially in light of poor living and economic conditions people suffer from in northwestern Syria. They use the Turkish territory to cross to Europe aiming at seeking asylum.
Late in November, the Turkish border guards killed one man and injured another on the Syrian-Turkish border near the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain), northeast Syria.
