ISIS killed, injured 43 government-backed militants in Syrian Desert

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Clashes erupted between the Islamic State (ISIS) and Syrian government forces along with their affiliated Iranian-backed militias in the Syrian Desert in the past two days led to the killing and injury of dozens, a military source from the government forces said on Monday.

The source, who preferred not to be named, told North Press that 16 soldiers of the government forces were killed and 27 others were injured in the past two days in Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.

The source added that four members of the government-backed National Defense Forces (NDF) were killed and 18 others were injured in a landmine explosion. The mine was planted by ISIS militants, according to the source.

The source pointed out that 10 militants of the Iran-backed Liwa al-Quds militia were killed and six others were injured in clashes with ISIS sleeper cells.

The ISIS cells launched an attack on a headquarters of the NDF next to Palmyra Castle, also known as Fakhr al-Din al-Ma’ani Castle, in the Syrian Desert injuring three NDF militants, the source noted.

Recently, the government forces, backed by their militias, have started launching attacks in the Syrian Desert to pursue the ISIS cells, according to the source.

The attack coincided with the another one on a headquarters of Iran-backed Baqir Brigade next to the al-Aleiwi petrol station in Palmyra. The attack led to the killing of two militants of the Iranian militia.
