Party in NE Syria urges global action to curb Turkish attacks
RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – An official from the Future Syria Party called on the international community on Sunday to lobby on Turkey to curb its attacks on northern and northeastern Syria, stating that Turkey seeks to expand its territory in Syria and bring about demographic change.
The official’s appeal came in a statement issued by the party condemning the Turkish attacks on the region.
On Nov. 24, a Turkish drone struck a car near the town of Amuda, northeastern Syria, killing an employee of ACTED, an international NGO, and injuring two others.
On Nov. 23, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced that two people were killed and five others were injured in three Turkish drone strikes a day earlier in the countryside of Qamishli.
Ibrahim Qaftan, a member of the General Council of the Future Syria Party, believes that the Turkish attacks not only threaten northeastern Syria but also the entire Middle East region.
He further told North Press that Turkey’s drone attacks in the region and its support for extremist groups means that it aims to further expand and revive the Ottoman state’s mentality.
The party’s statement noted that the Turkish attacks in northeastern Syria aim to destabilize the area and pave the way for extremist organizations to return.
The statement called on the international community and the UN Security Council to take effective action to curb such assaults.
