4.9-magnitude earthquake strikes NW Syria
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Syrian National Earthquake Center (NEC) announced, on Thursday, that a 4.9-magnitude earthquake struck northwestern Syria.
On Feb. 6, a devastating earthquake hit various areas of Aleppo, Idlib, Latakia Governorates, northwestern Syria, killing hundreds of people and destroying dozens of buildings.
The center added that the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale, recorded by monitoring stations at the NEC at 5:32 am.
It mentioned that the earthquake occurred in the Sanjak of Alexandretta which is 77 kilometers away from northwest Idlib.
Videos circulated showing the panic of residents and their descent to the streets in Aleppo and Idlib and their countryside out of fear of building collapses.
