Government forces kill 6 ISIS militants in Syrian Desert

ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces killed six militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Wednesday after the latter launched an attack on military posts held by the former in the Tayyba area in the Syrian Desert late last night, said a military source in the government forces.

The source told North Press, “ISIS lost four of its militants in the attack following hours of clashes in the areas of Rasm al-Kom, al-Latum, and the Tayyba where auxiliary forces are present.”

“In addition, a vehicle carrying supplies for the militants exploded when it passed over a landmine, planted by government forces, near al-Minshar checkpoint, while it was heading towards al-Latum, resulting in the killing of two militants who were inside.”

The source pointed out that the recent activities of ISIS signal an escalation in the Desert once again, extending towards the Syrian-Iraqi border at the Syrian town of Abu Kamal.

The source did not mention any details about losses among government forces, although there are reports of casualties among government troops.

Meanwhile, two militants of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed on Wednesday morning in an armed attack targeting a patrol in a town in eastern Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria.
