Iraq reveals number of ISIS families repatriated from Syria’s Hawl Camp

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji revealed that 1,567 Iraqi families had been returned to their country from Hawl Camp in Hasakah Governorate, northeastern Syria.

Hawl Camp is home to approximately 55,000 individuals, comprising 2,423 families with connections to Islamic State (ISIS) militants originating from around 60 countries.

Al-Araji stated during the seventh ambassadors’ conference in Baghdad, Iraq, that since the repatriation process began, a total of 1,567 Iraqi families have been brought back from Hawl Camp, adding that these families were subsequently relocated to al-Jadaa camp for rehabilitation purposes.

He added that the Hawl Camp “includes terrorists from 60 countries, most of them from Iraq and Syria, and 10,000 foreign terrorists.”

He explained that the decision to repatriate Iraqis was in the interest of the Iraqi national security. This objective was manifested through the voluntary transfer of Iraqi citizens to al-Jadaa camp, where they are actively engaged in integration and rehabilitation programs.
