SDF headquarters in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor go under attacks
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Gunmen affiliated with the Syrian government forces attacked on Sunday at midnight a number of headquarters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, with mortars and artillery fired from the western bank of the Euphrates River, the part run by the government forces and Iranian-backed militias.
On Sunday, unknown gunmen injured three civilians and shoot dead a girl child during an attack on an SDF checkpoint at the entrance of the town of Abu Hamam east of the governorate.
A military source from the SDF told North Press that the gunmen of the “regime” targeted the SDF headquarters near the Euphrates in the towns of Diban and the village of Hawaij following fierce shelling of the civilians’ houses with mortars and artillery.
The military source added that the shelling caused massive damages to the houses and forced residents to flee their areas, escaping the shelling.
On the back of the attack, fierce clashes erupted between the assailants and the SDF fighters, forcing the former to withdrew and flee after running out of ammunition, according to the source.
The attack against the headquarters left material losses only, according to the same source.
Recently, the SDF headquarters in Deir ez-Zor have been incurring immense attacks carried out by either cells of the Islamic State (ISIS) or Iranian-backed militants, as well as, US bases in the region witnessed rocket attacks by militias affiliated to Iran, especially after the flaring tension between Israel and Hamas.
