US forces cut information exchange channels with Iraqi leaders
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – The US forces cut “information exchange channels” with Iraqi army leaders at the Ain al-Asad base in western Iraq, Asharq al-Awsat said on Sunday.
Asharq al-Awsat said, citing Iraqi sources, that the US move came after a number of faction attacks reached precise targets inside the base.
Since the beginning of the war between Hamas an Israel, the US military bases in Syria and Iraq have been subjected to a series of attacks, some of them were committed by the Islamic Resistance, Iranian-affiliated militia.
The US decision was a “precautionary measure” in anticipation of more strikes, as the US forces believe that insiders have leaked information to “the party carrying out the attacks.”
However, a senior Iraqi officer denied that the Iraqi forces’ connection in Ain al-Asad has been cut off with US advisors and trainers.
On Oct. 31, Islamic Resistance claimed responsibility for targeting the US military airbase of Ain al-Asad in the Anbar Governorate in western Iraq.
On Sunday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken made an unannounced visit to Iraq.
Blinken met with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani in Baghdad for more than an hour. He also visited the US Embassy, where he received a security briefing on the threat to US facilities.
