Security chaos prevails in Syria’s al-Bab
AL-BAB, Syria (North Press) – The city of al-Bab, in eastern Aleppo, northern Syria, witnessed intense clashes on Saturday evening between families close to factions of the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA).
For the past week, the area has been plagued by daily armed clashes occurring either between SNA factions themselves or between families associated with these factions, resulting to a state of insecurity and instability within the city.
A local activist from the area told North Press that intense clashes erupted on Saturday night in the center of al-Bab, involving two families, one of which is affiliated with the Hamza Division of the SNA.
On Nov. 3, al-Bab experienced intense clashes characterized by the use of light and medium weapons, including grenades. These clashes were a result of a dispute between two families, one from the city of Manbij in northern Syria and the other from Deir ez-Zor in eastern Syria. Both families reside in al-Bab and are affiliated with opposition factions.
At the end of October, residents discovered the body of Eid Abu Hassan from the al-Abdo family on the Qubbat al-Sheikh road in the countryside of al-Bab. It was revealed that the killing was due to tribal disputes.
Unknown individuals also abducted a member of the Hamza Division on the Qabasin road in the city one day before discovering the body of Abu Hassan.
At the beginning of November, members of the SNA’s Levant Front faction attacked members of the SNA’s Civil Police, blocked roads, and caused panic among the residents.
The source added that the clashes, which initially started over a financial dispute and a physical altercation, escalated to the use of light and medium weapons and lasted for an hour, creating a state of panic among the city’s residents.
