Turkish border guards assault 24 Syrians in Idlib
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish border guards assaulted on Sunday at night 24 Syrians, including women, while trying to get into Turkish territories from Idlib northern countryside, northwest Syria.
An eyewitness told North Press that the Turkish border guards aggressively beat 24 people, including seven women, while they were trying to traverse Syrian-Turkish border near the town of Atmeh, north of Idlib.
Recently, there has been a spike in incidents of shootings and arrests by Turkish border guards targeting Syrians seeking to escape the war and worsening living conditions by crossing into Turkish territory with the aim of reaching Europe. These attempts often fail due to the heightened border control measures implemented by the Turkish authorities and their use of force against these individuals.
The members of the assaulted group hail from the countryside of Idlib, Hama, and Deir ez-Zor, and they were arrested and handed over to the Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), via Bab al-Hawa border crossing, according to the source.
