Turkish forces, SNA attack villages in Syria’s Hasakah

TEL TAMR, Syria (North Press) – Turkish forces and Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), targeted on Thursday at dawn villages in Hasakah Governorate, northeast Syria.

A military source told North Press, “The Turkish forces shelled with heavy weapons and mortars the villages of Tawila, Tel Tawil and Umm al-Keif in the countryside of the town of Tel Tamr.”

“The attacks caused material damages to houses and properties of civilians, but did not result in any human casualties,” the source added.

Two days earlier, the villages of Tel Tawil, al-Dardara, Tel al-Laban and Umm al-Keif were shelled with artillery and mortars without reporting any casualties, according to the source.

This came after SNA factions launched a ground attack on the villages of Tawila and Tel Tawil on Sep. 3, where the SDF killed more than 12 SNA militants, according to Tel Tamr Military Council affiliated with the SDF.

Tel Tamr, which has a population of about 25,000 and is 30 km away from the Syrian-Turkish border, is of strategic importance as it is a junction on the M4 Highway linking the Jazira region in northeast Syria to Aleppo governorate in northwest.

The town has been under constant attack by Turkish forces and their SNA factions for more than two years.

Parts of the northern and western countryside of the town and the entire southern countryside are protected by the Syriac Military Council and the Assyrian Khabour Guards Forces, while the Turkish-backed armed Syrian opposition factions control the northern countryside up to the city of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) on the northern border of Syria.
