DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – Jordanian army announced on Monday the shooting down of a drone loaded with narcotics coming from the Syrian territory, marking the fourth incident in the past few weeks.
Jordanian border guards, in coordination with Anti-Narcotics Administration and the military security agencies, monitored an attempt of a Syrian drone to cross illegally the Jordanian territory, the Jordanian army said in a statement.
“The drone was shot down inside Jordanian territory,” the statement read.
“The drone was found loaded with a quantity of crystal, and it was transferred to the competent authorities”, the statement quoted a military source.
On Aug. 28, the Jordanian authorities announced the shooting down of a drone coming from the Syrian territory.
In mid-August, the Jordanian army said they had shot down a drone at one of its borders in the eastern military region, loaded with explosives, after they had shot down another one coming from the Syrian territory and carrying a quantity of “crystal”, according to a military statement.
The Jordanian army has intensified its operations on the border with Syria in the recent months, especially with regard to monitoring and controlling drug trafficking.
“The Jordanian armed forces are continuing to deal firmly and decisively with any threat on the border fronts”, the military statement said.
