Government forces shoot down 3 drones of SNA in NW Syria

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Ministry of Defense of Syria announced on Monday that its forces had shot down three drones belonging to Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka Syrian National Army (SNA), while attempting to carry out strikes on villages and towns in the countryside of Idlib and Hama, northwest Syria.

The Ministry of Defense said on its official Facebook page, “After precise monitoring and surveillance of the movements of terrorist organizations and their repeated attempts to attack innocent civilians and their properties, units of our armed forces operating in the direction of Idlib and Hama countryside managed to shoot down three armed drones.”

These drones were aiming to target the surrounding safe villages and towns, according to the ministry.

The Syrian government forces occasionally announce the success of shooting down drones belonging to the SNA or Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front).

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.

In March 2020, Russia and Turkey reached an agreement in Moscow that stipulated a ceasefire, the establishment of a safe corridor, and the conduct of joint patrols on the M4/Aleppo-Latakia Highway.
