Armed attack wounds 3 Syrian government soldiers in Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Three Syrian government soldiers were wounded on Friday in an armed attack against their military post in Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
A military source said unidentified assailants riding a motorcycle targeted with machineguns the guard post of the government forces’ 17th Division on the outskirts of the town of al-Majawda in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.
The source added the attack wounded three Syrian government soldiers who were taken to al-Mayadin Hospital in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor. According to a medical source, the wounded soldiers are in critical condition. The attack also caused material damage in the post.
The Syrian Desert covers nearly half of the area of Syria, and is distributed over the governorates of Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Aleppo, Homs, Hama, Rif Dimashq, Suwayda and Palmyra.
Iranian-backed militias and the government forces control large areas of the Syrian Desert and the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, which constitutes a source of concern as it witnesses intensive operations by the Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells.
On Friday, ISIS claimed responsibility for an attack on two military buses of the 17th Division, killing and injuring 50 individuals in the countryside of the town of al-Mayadin.
