Turkish border guards arrest 22 Syrians in northern Idlib

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, Turkish border guards arrested 22  Syrians trying to cross into Turkey from Khirbat al-Jouz in Idlib, northwestern Syria.

A source told North Press that Turkish border guards fired live bullets over the heads of dozens of people who attempted to cross the border wall towards Turkey. 22 people were detained, while others managed to escape.

The detainees were taken to an observation point against the village to later be sent back to Syria through Bab al-Hawa border crossing, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) from the Syrian side.

According to informed sources, Turkish authorities have handed over more than 1,300 Syrians who attempted to cross the border in the first seven months of 2023.
