Turkish shelling of Aleppo countryside wounds woman, child
ALEPPO, Syria (North Press) – A woman and a child were wounded on Monday due to a shelling by the Turkish forces on the northern countryside of Aleppo.
The northern countryside of Aleppo, locally known as Shahba region, houses IDPs of the Kurdish city of Afrin which was occupied in 2018 by Turkey following a military operation called “Olive Branch” to push away the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) under the pretext of protecting Turkey’s “national security”.
A local source told North Press that the Turkish forces shelled the villages of Zouq Kabir, Kaloteh, Mayasa, and Burj al-Qas in the northern countryside of Aleppo. The villages lie in the south of the city of Afrin, but are under the control of the Syrian government forces.
The shelling resulted in the injury of a woman and a child who were hospitalized to a nearby medical point, the source said.
The occupation of Afrin caused the displacement of about 300,000 of the original inhabitants of the Kurds of Afrin, who have been taking shelter in 42 villages and five camps in Shahba, since then.
Towns and villages in the northern countryside of Aleppo have been under Turkish shelling since Turkish forces and their affiliated armed opposition factions, also known as the Syrian National Army (SNA), occupied the Afrin region in March 2018.
On Sunday, a Turkish drone hit the town of Tel Rifaat, in the northern countryside of Aleppo, causing material damage.
