Turkish border guards arrest 14 Syrians trying to cross border
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Turkish border guards arrested on Wednesday at dawn 14 Syrians, including four women with children, while attempting to cross into Turkey from the village of Kherbet al-Joz northwest of Idlib, northwest Syria.
An exclusive source told North Press that Turkish border guards ignored on purpose the asylum seekers when crossed the border wall so that they could arrest them once they entered Turkish territories. They were taken to a supervision post off Kherbet al-Joz.
The source added that there are 14 detainees, including four women with children. Only three women were identified, Lubana Sarmouh, Dima Swaydan, and Inas al-Layez.
In early July, Turkish border guards arrested 14 individuals, including three women, while attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border near the village of Azmarin, west of Idlib.
The Monitoring and Documentation Department recorded that in the first half of 2023, the number of affected Syrian asylum seekers has reached 452 individuals, including 20 children and 26 women. Tragically, 25 people were killed and 121 others were injured during direct targeting by live bullets while attempting to cross the Syrian-Turkish border. In addition, the Turkish border guards have assaulted and beat 306 individuals and have used excessive force to prevent them from crossing the border.
