Government intensifies shelling in NW Syria
IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – On Sunday, Syrian government forces escalated their shelling on areas held by Turkish-backed armed opposition factions, aka the Syrian National Army (SNA), and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in northwestern Syria.
An opposition military source told North Press that “government forces targeted with heavy artillery shells and rockets the villages and towns of Kansafra, al- Fatterah, Kafr Oweid, and Sfuhen in the Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, as well as the city of Saraqib and the towns of Afes and al- Nayrab, east of Idlib.”
The source added that the shelling injured a civilian in al- Nayrab, who was transported to nearby hospitals in the city of Saraqib. The shelling also targeted a mosque in the town of Afes, causing partial damage.
In addition, the government shelled, from Jurin camp, the villages and towns of al-Ankawi, al-Ziyarah, al-Sirmaniyah, and Duwayr al-Akrad in the Ghab Plain, northwest of Hama, as well as the Kabina area in the Jabal al-Akrad region, northeast of Latakia.
Military sources from the opposition told North Press that the al-Fateh al-Mubin Operations Room, a coalition of several armed factions including the HTS, targeted with artillery and rockets the government forces positions at the village of Tuffahiyeh, north of Latakia, and the Jurin camp in the al-Ghab Plain in western Hama.
The SNA’s National Front for Liberation also targeted government positions in the city of Saraqib and the towns of Khan Assubul and Dadikh east of Idlib with artillery shells and rockets, according to the same sources.
Earlier today, nine people were killed and 25 others injured in Russian airstrikes on a popular market in Jisr al-Shughur in western Idlib.
