Russian warplanes kill, injure about 30 people in NW Syria

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Around 30 people were killed or injured on Sunday due to intensive Russian airstrikes on various areas in Idlib and the countryside of Latakia, northwestern Syria. The airstrikes are the first of their kind in three years.

A military source in Idlib reported that Russian warplanes began a series of airstrikes on the outskirts of the city of Idlib, and the city of Jisr al-Shughur, Mount Arbaeen, Bazabur, and Binin in al-Zawiya Mountain, and the outskirts of the town of al-Kabina, north of Latakia.

The Russian strikes targeted farms near the city and vegetable markets in Jisr al-Shughur, leaving at least eight dead and more than 25 wounded, mostly in the city’s market.

Hospitals in Jisr al-Shughur called for evacuation cars to transport the wounded to nearby hospitals due to their inability to treat all the injured.

This military escalation by Russia against northwestern Syria is the first of its kind in about three years, with Russian warplanes launching more than 25 airstrikes since mid-June, leaving casualties among civilians.

On June 24, Russian warplanes also targeted the countryside of Idlib and Latakia.
