Saudi FM arrives in Tehran in restoration of diplomatic ties

QAMISHL, Syria (North Press) – In a step to complete the restoration of ties between rivals, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan arrived on Saturday in Iran.

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has arrived in the Iranian capital Tehran in a visit that will include meetings with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

Iran’s diplomatic missions in Saudi Arabia will resume on June 6 and 7, Iranian Ministry for Foreign Affairs said revealed on June 5.

Tehran named Alireza Enayati as its ambassador to Saudi Arabia in May.

On March 10, following days of intensive talks in Beijing, Iran and Saudi agreed, under China’s mediation, to thaw relations and to reopen their embassies in each other’s country ending their diplomatic rift.

Tension between the two countries simmered after Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) intervened in the Yemen war, where the Iran-aligned Houthi movement ousted a Saudi-backed government and took over the capital, Sanaa.
