Governor of Syria’s Daraa assaulted in settlement center
DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday, members of the Eighth Legion, affiliated with the Military Intelligence of the Syrian government, attacked the governor of Daraa and several accompanying officers in front of the settlement center in the city.
An exclusive source told North Press that the governor of Daraa, Luai Kharita, was assaulted along with several government forces officers by members of the Eighth Legion in front of the settlement center in al-Horiyat Palace in the city of Daraa.
The source added that Kharita headed to the settlement center to oversee the settlement process. He accused members of the Eighth Legion of blackmailing and threatening young men if they do not pay money.
Members of the Legion beat the governor at once, and things evolved into fist-fighting between them and the governor’s bodyguards and his accompanying officers, the source noted.
He also noted that after the governor left, the region witnessed tension and the deployment of security personnel and vehicles to keep order and shut down roads leading to the region.
In the past days, government forces opened a settlement center in the al-Horiyat Palace in the city of Daraa to settle the status of wanted individuals for government security branches.
