Iranian embassy in Saudi Arabia to resume work this week

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Iran’s diplomatic missionsin Saudi Arabia will resume on Tuesday and Wednesday, Iranian Ministry for Foreign Affairs said revealed on Monday.

“Iran’s embassy in Riyadh, our Consulate General in Jeddah and our office to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will be officially reopened on Tuesday and Wednesday,” said Nasser Kanaani spokesman of the Iranian Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

This came months after restoring diplomatic ties between the two rival countries.

On March 10, following days of intensive talks in Beijing, Iran and Saudi agreed, under China’s mediation, to thaw relations and to reopen their embassies in each other’s country ending their diplomatic rift.

Tension between the two countries simmered after Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates intervened in the Yemen war, where the Iran-aligned Houthi movement ousted a Saudi-backed government and took over the capital, Sanaa.

Tehran named Alireza Enayati as its ambassador to Saudi Arabia in May.
