Three Israeli soldiers killed on Egyptian border
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Three Israeli soldiers were killed on the country’s border with Egypt, the BBC reports. Two border patrols had been found dead at their posts on Saturday, June 3, while another soldier, as well as the Egyptian assailant, were killed in a subsequent security operation by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
Both governments confirmed that the killer was a member of Egypt’s security forces. An IDF statement said an investigation was being conducted “in full cooperation with the Egyptian army.”
Though Egypt’s Sinai peninsula, which borders Israel, has in the past been the site of Islamic State (ISIS) activity, it does not seem related to the killings.
Instead, they are likely related to a drug bust hours before, when narcotics valued at $400,000 had been confiscated by Israeli forces.
