US imposes new sanctions on Iran’s IRGC

DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, the United States imposed new sanctions on members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and a company affiliated with the IRGC’s Quds Force.

The new pack of penalties, imposed by the US Department of the Treasury, responded to the IRGC’s  participation “in a series of terrorist plots including assassination plots targeting former United States government officials, dual U.S. and Iranian nationals, and Iranian dissidents.

These sanctions target three people based in Turkey and Iran and a company affiliated with the IRGC’s Quds Force, “along with two senior officials of the IRGC’s Intelligence Organization (IRGC-IO), who have been involved in plotting external lethal operations against civilians including journalists and activists.”

On Tuesday, the US Department of the Treasury said it placed new sanctions under the Caesar Act, which targets businesses that assist the Syrian government, on two exchange companies and three people for backing “the Syrian regime”, Hezbollah and IRGC’s Quds Force.
