DARAA, Syria (North Press) – Syrian government forces opened on Monday a new reconciliation center to settle the status of wanted individuals for government security branches in the town of Nasib, on the border with Jordan, in Daraa Governorate, southern Syria.
An exclusive source told North Press that the government forces opened a settlement center in al-Kashef neighborhood in Daraa al-Mahta for the residents of the border town.
The source added that the settlement is for civilians wanted for security forces and those who evaded compulsory and reserve military service in the government forces.
He noted that the government forces will grant defected military personnel only one month before returning to service, whereas six months for those who evaded the reserve military service.
The source added that 120 people from Nasib are wanted for this scheme, most of whom are involved with the “Imad Abu Zeriq group,” which is affiliated with the Military Security Branch of the government in Daraa.
On May 16, government forces initiated the fifth settlement in a town in the eastern countryside of Daraa.
In July 2018, opposition factions and Syrian government forces reached an agreement, mediated by Russia, regarding the opposition-held areas of Daraa.
According to the deal, opposition militants who agreed to hand over heavy weapons, were handed special cards to protect them from prosecution, and allowed them to stay in Daraa. Those opposed to the agreement were forced to leave for Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS – formerly al-Nusra Front).
