Gunmen shoot civilian, government soldier in Deir ez-Zor city

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Saturday, a soldier of the Syrian government forces and a civilian were wounded in armed attack by unidentified gunmen in Deir ez-Zor city, eastern Syria.

Asaad al-Hanan, a resident of al-Jorah neighborhood in Deir ez-Zor city, told North Press that two unidentified gunmen, riding a motorcycle, targeted with pistols a member of the government forces’ Military Security Branch, and a civilian who was accompanying him, near al-Wadi Street in the center of the neighborhood.

He added that the gunmen were wearing uniforms of government forces, noting that they fled into alleys after the attack. The injured were transferred to a field hospital in the neighborhood, “and they are in good health.”

Al-Hanan stated that Military Security patrols are accusing members of the National Defence Forces (NDF), a government-backed militia, of carrying out the attack, due to a quarrel that took place between them on Friday.
