Russian, Syrian forces shell opposition sites in NW Syria

IDLIB, Syria (North Press) – Russian air force raided on Friday areas controlled by the Syrian opposition factions in northwestern Syria amid shelling by the Syrian government forces on the same area.

Russian warplanes attacked the axes of Sfuhen, and Fleifel in Zawiya Mountain, south of Idlib, without reports on casualties, a military source from the opposition told North Press.

The source said that the government forces also shelled the aforementioned area in addition to areas in Ghab Plain, west of Hama.

The villages and towns of Darat Izza, Atareb, al-Qatora, Tuqad, and Kafr Ammah in the west of Aleppo were shelled by the government forces.

The military escalation in the de-escalation zone came following a relative calmness during the past days.

Although the de-escalation zone in northwest Syria is subject to a Russian-Turkish ceasefire agreement signed in March 2020, the area witnesses frequent mutual bombardment despite the entry of the ceasefire into force.
