Syria’s AANES launches campaign to control leishmaniasis in Manbij

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Environment Directorate of People’s Municipality in the city of Manbij, northern Syria, launched early this week a campaign to control flies that transmit leishmaniasis disease. 

Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease that is caused by infection with Leishmania parasites, which are spread by the bite of infected sand flies.

Adnan al-Dakhil, co-chair of the Environment Directorate, affilitated with Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), told North Press that the campaign is voluntarily and it will operate according to medical and environmental priority studied by the directorate.

The campaign was launched in coordination with municipalities committee in Manbij, as it provides workers, while the directorate provides needed equipment.

The campaign will target all infested villages and the vicinity of Manbij, according to al-Dakhil.

Till now, 3000 houses were targeted in the village of Makta’ Hajar Kabir and 2000 others were targeted in Abu Kalkal, he added.

The campaign will continue to cover all infested areas, the official stressed.
