Unknown attack claims life of SDF leader in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Thursday, a leader of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) succumbed to his injuries he sustained in an attack by unknown armed men in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
A military source from the SDF in the town of al-Busayrah, in Deir ez-Zor eastern countryside, said that the leader of Deir ez-Zor Military Council “Tayesir al-Sarhid” lost his life after being shot at by unknown armed men, who were riding a motorbike, in front of his house.
The source added that “al-Sarhid” was transferred to al-Busayrah Hospital for treatment, where he succumbed to his injuries while his cousin, who was accompanying al-Sarhid during the incident, was kept in the hospital to receive treatment.
However, the SDF has not commented on the incident so far.
Two days ago, Islamic State (ISIS), through close outlets, claimed responsibility for targeting a checkpoint of the SDF in the town of Shuhail east of Deir ez-Zor.
The countryside of Deir ez-Zor witnesses increasing assassinations against SDF fighters, employees of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES), tribe leaders, and civilian population despite intensive security operations by the SDF and the Global Coalition.
ISIS lost its final stronghold in Syria in March 2019. The SDF, with the support of the US-led Global Coalition, defeated ISIS after fierce battles in the town of Baghouz in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria, bringing an end to the so-called caliphate declared by the terrorist ISIS.
After Baghouz, thousands of ISIS militants were transferred to prisons, while their families were transferred to Hawl and Roj camps in the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES)-held areas.
