Syrian refugees stranded in Sudan as clashes continue there
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Syrian refugees are helpless in Sudan, as some of them wait for Syrian authorities to follow the footsteps of other states to intervene and evacuate their nationals from Sudan.
The number of Syrian refugees is estimated at around 90,000 and it is considered the largest community in Sudan.
Syrians in Sudan find themselves in a predicament now that fighting erupted there and most of them escaped the war in Syria and due to the way they arrived there.
They cannot be evacuated by the Syrian embassy in Sudan because many of them are wanted by the Syrian government for their political views and others evaded and escaped military service.
The Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group, have been clashing across the country since April 15, leaving behind hundreds of casualties, most of whom are civilians.
