Israel launches strikes in Syria after rocket attacks

QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Israeli military attacked targets in Syria early on Sunday, in retaliation for rocket attacks that launched from Syrian territory in two batches toward Israel.

In response to the six rocket attacks that were launched from Syria toward Israel in a “rare attack”, Israel initially responded with artillery fire into the area in Syria from where the rockets were fired, the Israeli military said.

Later, Israeli warplanes targeted Syrian army sites, including Syria’s Fourth Division’s headquarters, radar and artillery posts, according to the Israeli military.

On Saturday, media outlets reported that three rockets launched from Syria targeted the Golan Heights, no causalities were reported.

Damascus’ attack came after days of escalating violence on multiple fronts over Israeli-Palestinian tensions in Jerusalem.

Liwa al-Quds, a local Palestinian militia, claimed responsibility for launching the three missiles on Saturday, according to Beirut-based al-Mayadeen TV.
