Syria must return to Arab League – Iraqi PM

ERBIL, KRI, Iraq (North Press) – On Sunday, Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, stressed the need for Damascus to return to its seat in the Arab League.

Al-Sudani’s statement came a day after Riyadh announced its intention to send an invitation to Damascus to attend the next Arab summit.

Al-Sudani said in a statement carried by the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) that Syria must return to the Arab League, as it has suffered a lot, and the dialogue must be used.

Al-Sudani noted the impact of the security situation in Syria on his country, saying that the “most serious security challenge we face is the security situation in Syria.”

He reiterated a previous conversation regarding foreign forces on Iraqi territory, stressing that there is no need for combat forces or a foreign presence, but only for security relations and cooperation at the level of training and information exchange.

On the other hand, he said that there are joint committees with Turkey and Iran working to reach an agreement that “regulates the relationship and how to control the borders, “and that “an understanding has been reached with the Kurdistan region regarding the presence of federal forces along the borders with Turkey and Iran.”
