Arab countries urge Turkey to withdraw its forcesfrom fellow states
DAMASCUS, Syria (North Press) – The Arab Ministerial Committee Concerned with Following up on Turkish Interventions in the Internal Affairs of Arab Countries, linked to the Arab League, expressed its concerns regarding Turkey’s military presence in Syria, Iraq and Libya on Wednesday.
In a meeting held at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, the committee stressed the need for Turkey to withdraw its forces from these countries immediately.
The committee, which consists of Egypt, the UAE, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, called for Turkey’s cooperation in taking all measures to address the presence of “foreign terrorists and mercenaries” in Arab countries, to preserve the sovereignty of states, and ensure their stability.
The committee stressed its rejection of any implementation of a demographic change in the areas under Turkish control.
It called on Turkey to respect Syria’s and Iraq’s right to an adequate share of water from both the Euphrates and Tigris rivers, which originate in Turkey, and to stop building dams on its part of the rivers.
Since February 2020, Turkey has withheld water from the Euphrates River, breaching a 1987 treaty which entitles Syria to 500 cubic meters per second of water. Currently, only 200 cubic meters per second is being recorded on Syria’s border with Turkey.
