SDC sets tentative date for its National Conference
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – A top official of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) said that a tentative date for the conference of Syrian National Democratic Forces and Figures was scheduled for early June.
In an interview with the Hawar News Agency based in northeast Syria, Ali Rahmoun, member of the SDC executive committee and the Preparatory Committee for the Conference of National Democratic Forces and Figures in Syria, said a large number of consultative meetings were held, both inside and outside Syria, in which a preparatory committee was elected.
Rahmon indicated that, in the last meeting in Stockholm, Sweden, a tentative date for holding the upcoming conference was set for early June, without elaborating about the place of the conference.
Regarding the goals of the conference, Rahmon said that the main goal is “to bring these forces together to have a role in the political solution in Syria.”
He further explained that the SDC, through holding this conference, seeks to reach a political solution in accordance with the UN Resolution (2254), which guarantees democratic change in Syria and the participation of all political and societal components; in order to work on a political transition that leads to a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria.
He noted that international actors in Syria have always encouraged and participated in the consultative meetings.
The SDC official told Hawar agency that there are two parties trying to impede the conference, “Turkey, which strongly resists this, and also the Syrian regime.”
Rahmon stressed that they are working hard to hold the conference in order to achieve consensus among Syrians, leading to “a future Syria that guarantees rights of all Syrians”.
The SDC is the political wing of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES). It was founded in 2015 and includes all the communities of North and East Syria.
