QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed on Wednesday that presidential and parliamentary elections are definitely coming on May 14 despite the devastation left by the disastrous Feb. 6 earthquake.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported on the same day that the death toll in Turkey from the devastating earthquake has risen to 45.089.
Making his first announcement after the earthquake, Erdogan told members of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), “The time is coming on May 14,” confirming the date of polling.
The earthquake has left more than 108.000 injured, millions sheltering in tents or seeking to move to other cities.
More than 160.000 buildings collapsed or were severely damaged in the disaster, according to AFAD.
