Residents of Syria’s Afrin install tents near houses due to robberies

AFRIN, Syria (North Press) – Residents of the city of Afrin, northwest Syria, installed on Monday tents near their houses damaged by the Feb. 6 earthquake after some of them were robbed.

On Feb. 6, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck Syria and Turkey, killing more than 44.000 and injuring many more, in addition to destroying thousands of buildings in both countries.

An exclusive source told North Press that a number of residents installed tents on streets and squares overlooking their houses in order to prevent robberies.

Robbery occurred recently in many houses and shops in Afrin, as residents evacuated the cracked and damaged buildings and shops following the Feb. 6 earthquake that hit the region.

At nearly 8 pm of the same day, two earthquakes hit Turkey’s Hatay Province, measuring 6.4 and 5.8 on Richter scale. The earthquakes, especially the first one, damaged northwest Syria and was felt in all of the country.

Three people were killed and 339 others were injured in yesterday’s earthquake in Syria.
