WHO official visits Syria’s Aleppo with tons of medical supplies
QAMISHLI, Syria (North Press) – Director of World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, visited on Saturday the city of Aleppo, Syria’s earthquake-stricken city, to tour some hospitals and shelters with Syrian officials.
The state-run news agency SANA reported, quoting Ghebreyesus as saying, “We brought in about 35 to 37 tons of medical and health requirements.”
“The WHO will provide the necessary support to Syria, including medical equipment and devices to deal with the basic needs for the affected by the earthquake,” Ghebreyesus added.
The director hoped that the announcement of the partial lifting of sanctions against Syria for 180 days would facilitate international relief operations and the arrival of the necessary materials.
At dawn on Monday, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Syria and Turkey, killing tens of thousands and injuring many more. The earthquake also caused immense destruction to buildings, trapping thousands under the rubble.
The victims’ toll reached 3.581 deaths and 5.348 injuries in all Syrian areas.
