Shepherds find unidentified body in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Shepherds found on Friday a body of an unknown young man near the Syrian-Iraqi border in the town of Baghouz, in the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A local source from the town said that the victim, who is most likely in his thirties, was handcuffed and shot dead.

The residents from the town did not recognize him and said that he is from outside the town, according to the source.

The source added that the victim is most likely Iraqi.

The body was handed over to Iraqi border guards, the source noted.

The town of Baghouz, the last stronghold of Islamic State (ISIS), witnessed fierce fighting between ISIS on the one hand and the US-led Global Coalition and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on the second, leading to extensive destruction, as were the condition in most of the eastern cities and villages of Deir ez-Zor from Hajin to Baghouz.

The infrastructure in these areas incurred massive destruction.

The town, which had a population of 40.000, according to old Syrian government statistics, suffers from destruction in addition to the presence of unsafely buried bodies of ISIS members who were killed in Global Coalition airstrikes. They were buried between fields and farms, according to residents from the town.
