SDF arrests 8 ISIS militants in Syria’s Raqqa

RAQQA, Syria (North Press) – On Tuesday, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced the arrest of eight militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) during a security campaign that has been ongoing for a week in Raqqa and Tabqa, in northern Syria.

The SDF Media Center said in a statement that among the arrested militants were “two senior leaders” and that the SDF had seized documents and “booklets on extremism.”

The statement added that the SDF, in cooperation with Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria (Asayish) and the US-led Global Coalition, found an old weapons depot built when ISIS ruled the region, without specifying its location.

The Asayish imposed a total curfew on Raqqa today, lasting from six in the morning until eight in the evening, in order to pursue ISIS suspects.

Operation ‘Retaliation for Raqqa Martyrs‘ was launched by the SDF and the Asayish, backed by the forces of the US-led Global Coalition, following an ISIS attack on the headquarters of the Asayish in Raqqa on December 26, 2022.
