Lebanese Hezbollah Collaborator Killed in Syria’s Daraa

DARAA, Syria (North Press) – On Monday evening, a militant linked to Iranian-backed Hezbollah was killed in the city of Daraa, south Syria.

Local sources told North Press that Wasim Abu Hobi was killed by unknown men in a drive-by shooting in al-Sahari neighborhood, in Daraa.

The sources added that two other individuals were injured in the attack, and were transferred to the National Hospital in Daraa for treatment.

Abu Hobi is Palestinian works within the group of Wasim al-Masalma, the head of an Iranian-backed foundation with links to Lebanese Hezbollah, according to the same sources.

In July 2018, the opposition factions and government forces reached a ceasefire agreement mediated by Russia in the opposition-held areas of Daraa Governorate. Under the deal, those opposition militants who agreed to hand over their heavy weapons were handed a settlement card and allowed to stay in Daraa, while those opposed the agreement would be moved to Idlib, which is under the control of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly al-Nusra).

In 2021, the Daraa Governorate was besieged by government forces for 80 days. It ended by a ceasefire agreement between a number of Daraa’s notables and government forces, with mediation of Russian officers, on September 5, 2021. Local opposition were disarmed and government security posts were established in the towns of the governorate.
