Unknown gunmen kill 2 IRGC militants in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor

DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – Two militants of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed on Saturday by unknown gunmen in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.

A military source of the IRGC in the town of al-Mere’iyah, 20 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said that unknown gunmen riding a motorbike targeted two militants of the IRGC in a barber shop, near their military post.

The two militants, who recently joint the IRGC, hail from the same town, according to the source.

Such attacks are usually carried out by the Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells, which continue to attack the government forces and Iranian-backed militias in the Syrian Badia by planting IEDs and setting ambushes.

On January 23, the Syrian government forces found the bodies of militants of Iranian-backed militias who were arrested a few days ago by attackers bearing flags of ISIS in the town of al-Masrab, west of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
