Armed Attack Claims Life of 2 SDF Fighters in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (North Press) – On Wednesday, two fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) lost their lives and another was wounded by unidentified gunmen in a town east of Deir ez-Zor, east Syria.
An SDF military source in the town of al-Hawaij, 40 km east of Deir ez-Zor, said unidentified gunmen targeted with machineguns a checkpoint near the entrance of al-Hawaij, and clashes erupted between the two parties.
The attack resulted in the death of two SDF fighters and the injury of another who was taken to a hospital over sustaining critical injuries, according to a medical source.
The SDF conducted patrols and closed entrances and exits of the town to pursue the attackers.
There has been no further information on whether they were captured or not.
Areas of Deir ez-Zor witness increasing attacks against the SDF amid growing activities of Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells in the region.
On Tuesday, the SDF and the US-led Global Coalition arrested three ISIS militants in the town of al-Shuhail east of Deir ez-Zor.
